Summary Design Engineering: Special Project: Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO)

The purpose of the SCWO project was to advance the design of supercritical water
oxidation as a viable technology for treating DOE hazardous and mixed wastes.

We prepared construction turnover documentation for the construction of two SCWO reactors systems. Our responsibilities also included, but were not limited to, advancing the design process and updating the P&ID’s, I/O documents, electrical drawings, electrical and instrument interface documents, instrument wiring diagrams, instrumentation selection and writing the Minimal Control Function Reports (MFCR), vendor and instrumentation selection. In addition, we provided the technical interfacing to the Fisher-Rosemount Delta V digital automation control system. Plus, we assisted in the updating of the site project's schedules and cost report summaries.

Landfill
Summary: As the site of the most micro-turbines in one place, this Los Angeles area landfill utilizes 50 C30 biogas micro-turbines to convert toxic landfill gases into clean power for the community. A joint project of the LADWP and the SCAQMD, the units have been operating continuously since August 2002, exporting enough energy to the utility grid to serve more than 1,000 homes.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company,

Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Avila Beach, CA

(5 years project)

Summary Design Engineering: Designing, modifying, updating, planning, scheduling, and supervising turbine and generator turnkey  installations. These modification packages included the feedwater, reactor, turbine, generator, and control room systems. These projects and modification packages included safety and seismic review and duties. The systems included Siemens, Bentley Nevada (TSI), Fisher, Bailey, Allen Bradley, Foxboro, Motorola, Eaton, Rochester, Westinghouse, Honeywell, and others. We received numerous project, engineering, and safety awards as being part of the team to assist in making Diablo Canyon Power Plant one the top nuclear power plant in the country according the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Telecom/IT Administration Building
Summary: A single C30 is used 24x7 as the prime power source to run the telecom/data center operations of an administration building of a world-renowned aerospace manufacturer. The utility grid is designated as the emergency backup source.

Plastic Manufacturer
Summary: This plastics manufacturer creates all its electrical power onsite with an array of 25 Capstone Micro-Turbines powered by natural gas. The utility grid serves as emergency back-up. Exhaust is used for climate control, creating ambient heating in the winter and absorption chiller air conditioning and desiccation in the summer.

Boston Edison Electric Company, Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant

Plymouth, MA

Summary Design Engineering: We performed on-site pre-planning, scheduling, and design modifications for unit one refueling outage. Supervised, evaluated, and integrated advanced technology into designs, construction, operational and maintenance functions to meet management goals and mandates. This included replacing, modifying, adding, and updating systems - turbine and feedwater.

Supermarket
Summary: At this Tokyo supermarket, a Capstone C30 is the heart of a Meidensha Miospectrum OEM CHP system, integrating the components of a combined heat and power system into a single unit design. Electrical output runs compressors and motors for refrigerators and freezers, offsetting high utility rates. Thermal output drives desiccant equipment that reduces humidity to preserve freshness of the supermarket's perishables.
Others include: Bechtel, Flour Daniel, ABB, Westinghouse, GE, Boston Edison, Metropolitan Wastewater Departments and others. Others include: Hospitals, Supermarkets, Office Building, Shopping Centers, Gas Station/Car Wash and others.
